Patriarchate: Jerusalem Armenian community in no danger

The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that even though the situation in the city is calm at present, there is tension because Muslims will come to Jerusalem today for their Friday prayer, and therefore police forces have been assembled in the city to prevent clashes.

“That district of the city is geographically very far away from the Armenian district,” informed the patriarchate. “So, the Armenian community is in no danger.”

It added, however, that Arab shopkeepers are on strike for the second day.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and said the US Department of State has been ordered to start transferring the US embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

But this decision brought about worldwide reaction.
